Drink

These caipirinhas were our drink of choice while in Rio. They are Brazil's national cocktail. Brody enjoys his caipirinhas with cachaca (cashasa), rum made from sugar cane, sugar, and lime. I order a caipiroska, which is a caipirinha made with vodka. Two of these with put you under the table!

While in Rio, Brody found his favorite Brazilian beer, partly because of the taste and partly because each beer is packaged with a stylish foil wrap on the top. Itaipava is brewed by Cervejaria Petropolis. It was a refreshing choice on the beach!

I love when restaurants serve coconut water directly from the coconut! It just makes brunch so much better!

I am in love with 'suco de melancia', watermelon juice! At brunch the other day, it was served with a hint of cinnamon and it was to die for!

The water here is not free, in fact most Brazilians only drink bottled water. The restaurants only serve bottled water and they always bring the bottle to the table. You do not get free refills on drinks.

Brody and I laugh because they serve beer in teeny, tiny glasses! They do this because Brazilians want their beer to be really cold. In big mugs, the beer warms the longer you let it sit out.

We have been ordering a "chopp"(pronounced "shoppe") of Original Cerveja (beer). This is when the waiter serves huge beer bottles in an ice bucket for the entire table to share. The waiter will come and refill your glass, or you can do it yourself.

The angle does not do the size justice! It is seriously
like 1/4 of an American beer mug!

These coolers looked cool.

I was with a group. I promise I did not drink all of these by myself!
The photo above shows you how big the chopp bottles are. We dove into this small neighborhood bar to get out of the rain. During rainy season, it can rain for multiple days straight.

Brody ordered this caipirinha de maracuja (passionfruit caipirinha).
I ordered the same caipirinha the night before. We can't get enough of the maracuja seeds!
