Brody and I escaped to Ubatuba, a city near the coast, known for it's beautiful beaches. After driving 5 hours early on Saturday morning, we made it safely to our hotel.

Then, we walked to a popular beach and enjoyed grilled cheese sticks and cocktails.

After showering, we enjoyed the view from the balcony and listened to an Evangelical church group march through the street holding candles and singing a hymn in Portuguese. Finally, we walked to a seafood place for dinner.
Sunday morning, we woke up early and drove to a secluded beach thirty minutes from Ubatuba. We basked in the sun, took strolls down the beach and watched paddle boarders get stuck in the water between the beach and a small island close-by.

Whoopsie! I forgot to include a knee-slapper story about our drive back... We left Ubatuba at 3pm planning to miss traffic, well, it still took us seven-hours to get back! On top of the one-lane road with unending construction, Alwyn and I had disgusting (blow your nose in the car and cough up mucus) colds. So to give ourselves a break, we stopped at a gas station.
The real bathrooms were inside, but Brody found one outside as well. He nonchalantly walked in to find a trough and one-stall. The stall was being used. So connect the dots... while Brody was relieving himself, a 70-year-old man with a beer belly, t-shirt, and sunga (man-thong swimsuit) came in. He joined Brody at the trough and dropped his sunga! No shy Brazilians in the bathroom here! The real kicker is we had been driving for 5 hours, no beach in sight! (still wearing a sunga?)
